Here is Ryan’s health and fitness story…

“My introduction to fitness started in my teens as an aspiring professional rugby player at Kilmarnock Rugby club. I was determined to make a full time career out of throwing an egg around, and in pursuit of this I first started training in the gym with Kilmarnock Weightlifting Club, with the sole purpose of being big and strong enough to play my position. My rugby career reached its peak at around 18 years old, where I was fortunate enough to play age grade rugby for Glasgow Warriors and represent Scotland at U17 level. Unfortunately due to poorly timed injuries and 2 years of rehabilitating after two knee surgeries, I had to accept that a career as a professional rugby player was off the cards. Unsure as to what to pursue as a career, I applied for various university courses: Physiotherapy, Sports Medicine, Sports Coaching and Geography made the list. As it turned out, Physiotherapy was the only course that I got a conditional offer for! Since graduating in 2016, I’ve been fortunate enough to have some great experiences as a Physiotherapist, working mainly in professional football with Kilmarnock Football Club and private practice. In 2016, after finishing my club rugby career, I walked through the doors of Aristos Fitness (then CrossFit Stewarton). I became obsessed with functional fitness and spent most of my twenties competing in functional fitness competitions. During this time, I was given the opportunity to become co-owner of Aristos Physiotherapy and since leaving Kilmarnock Football Club in 2021, my sole focus has been growing our Physiotherapy practice. Fitness for me now looks very different to what it did a couple of years ago. Instead of training hard in the gym 6 days a week, I am now loving pushing myself inside and outside of the gym. Most recently I completed the Yorkshire Marathon and during this time developed a love for being outdoors. Whether it’s walking, biking, swimming, running, or lifting weights, my main aim with fitness is to enjoy it, and to have adventures doing it for as long as I can.”

Client Testimonials

I am 37 years of age and male. I was introduced to Ryan via a friend as I was need of guidance following a mountain bike accident. I sustained multiple fractured ribs, a collapsed left lung, a fractured T12 and sternum. This resulted in hospitalisation for just under three weeks. I then developed a blood clot in the other lung which resulted in another period of hospitalisation.

Prior to my accident I had a reasonable level of fitness, training in my local CrossFit gym and mountain biking throughout the UK. For comparison I was training to rx weights and completing sessions in a reasonable time.

Post accident I lost 3 stone in weight, had to wear a back brace for 2 months, so you can imagine all of the above was no longer possible. Detrimental not only physically but mentally as well. NHS were really good but as anyone who has been in a similar position knows, their goal is not to get you back to fitness pre accident. That’s where Ryan came in.

His knowledge and then additional research he carried out resulted in me now, 16 months post accident, back training normally in my Crossfit gym to just below rx level. I completed the hero wod murph (2 mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 press-ups and 300 air squats) in October, 1 year after my crash. I’m back up to maybe 90% strength.

Ryan saw me every 4-6 weeks, built up to sports tissue massage and prepared bespoke training programmes depending upon how I was presenting physically, and what my short to long term goals were. He provided tutorials on the exercises and was always at the end of a phone for advice.

All of this gave me the confidence to push on through and get back to where I am today. Thanks for all your help Ryan.

A month has past since my last visit to you. Physically it is the best I have been for some time. No doubt your time, advice and your suggested exercises has been the answer to my pain for which I can’t thank you enough. THANK YOU.

PS. We should have met months ago.
