“In my youth I was a keen swimmer and took part in Sports Acro gymnastics with Kilmarnock and Loudoun Gymnastics club, regularly competing in both pairs and trio competitions including the Scottish Regionals. After school I stopped swimming and competing and dipped in and out of fitness for years.
A lot of people say there is a trigger to pushing you into losing weight and for me it was a picture my daughter, Sophie, took of me a few years ago; I was horrified. I knew I had been slowly putting on weight – my clothes getting tighter was the big give away and I was probably heading to having to buy the bigger size. I had never been this size in my life; I was feeling unfit, unhealthy and the biggest I had ever been, and now with a daughter looking up to me, I realised I had to do something about it! I had been to the big corporate gyms and hadn’t enjoyed them, which was probably why I hadn’t stuck at them. I joined a smaller gym and took part in their 10-week challenge. That was the start of my fitness journey. I saw amazing results, I felt fitter, healthier and my clothes were looser.
As my hours and responsibilities increased at work, I found the extra distance to their gym a challenge. I’d heard about CrossFit, so I looked into it and found there was a new gym nearby. Like many people who try out CrossFit, I was totally hooked! I saw big changes initially, however a year in, my weight loss plateaued. I was happyish with my body shape, I was getting fitter and stronger with every workout, but I wanted that more defined look; so when Aristos launched a Body Transformation Challenge, I was in 100% with 5 workouts a week, nutrition coaching and a regular weekly check in. I worked hard over the weeks, stuck to my goals and lost that final few kg! It’s been a long journey and I’m now happy in my own skin.
Nutrition is my passion and it was my own weight loss journey that inspired me to pursue my dream of becoming a Nutritionist, Coach and Personal Trainer so that I could help others to achieve their health and weight loss goals!”
