“I was first formally introduced to fitness as a sport scholar at the University of Stirling. It was not love at first sight. I would spend the next four years doing my best to shirk any activity involving the weight room or athletics track.
Later, as my sporting commitments began to decline, and my passion for take-away and beer started to peak, I noticed the importance of fitness – or lack thereof. To counter my ever-expanding waistline, I decided it was time to finally time to get acquainted with the gym.
It wasn’t long before I was in better shape than I had been even as a tennis player, and – inspired by my recent transformation – I went in search of a new challenge.
Competitive fitness was growing rapidly in the UK and seemed like the perfect opportunity to explore what my body was capable of. For the next ten years I would compete in functional fitness – including CrossFit, Weightlifting and Obstacle Course Racing.
A lot has changed since my fitness journey began. Not only have I watched Aristos grow into the business it is today, but I’ve also married my best friend and become a dad – twice.
As I have changed over time, so too has my fitness.
No longer am I concerned with chasing elite performance, and training for aesthetic appeal holds little interest. Instead, I have come to appreciate the crucial role of fitness in enhancing our quality of life.
I want to live as well – and as long – as possible in my role as husband, father and coach. It might have been a rocky start, but fitness is now the foundation on which my life is built.
Fitness supports my life and my current abilities; it allows me to live the life I choose with confidence and without limitation. I exercise because I can; because I’m still learning about my body; about movement, and how to become a better coach.”
